As people prepare to engage in various activities involving Halloween this weekend, there are some reminders for safety as it relates to COVID-19.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says if families are engaging in activities outdoors with their own group the risk of COVID-19 exposure is low, but if people move indoors that’s when precautions should be taken.

“If your child or you attend an indoor Halloween event consider incorporating into your costume a double layer face mask that will cover your mouth and nose. Any Halloween event involving crowded conditions with unvaccinated guests increases the risks of spreading COVID.”

Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio as people are participating in various events over the weekend including trick-or-treating and they think they have come into contact with someone who has COVID-19 there are precautions you should take.

“If you attend a Halloween event and find out someone else who attended has tested positive for COVID, get tested yourself between five and seven days after that gathering.”

Cochran reminds everyone a free COVID-19 test can be received either through  the Dallas County Health Department or local pharmacies.
