The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, County Attorney Thomas Laehn talked to the Board about some information that he received from the U.S. Board on Geographic Names about a tributary in northwest Greene County that wasn’t designated with a name. He said a proposal came from a Churdan area resident to name the tributary to Cedar Creek as Wolf Hollow Creek, as that is what some county residents refer to that area as. A request was made to the Supervisors for their approval or disapproval, which the Board tabled until they discussed the topic with the landowners in that area.
County Engineer Wade Weiss then gave an update on the carbon dioxide pipeline project. He said when the informational meetings are done, negotiations can start with landowners, including Greene County.
Also during open forum, Sheriff Jack Williams and Weiss updated the Board on a potential issue with a communication tower. They said the current tower at the law enforcement center is 150 feet and when the state switched to a new system, the change was cutting out half of their radio traffic. The new requirement is to have a 200 foot tower that would cost an estimated $1.9 million to build. Williams and Weiss are working on possible locations.
The Board then approved the 2021 weed commissioner’s report, as well as the 2022 weed commissioner’s certification. They also approved a resolution supporting the referendum to continue the operation of a casino and events center in Greene County, ahead of the November 2nd election on the topic.
Additionally, the Board approved the amended and substituted 28E agreement for electronic service systems for Iowa Land Record as presented, and a resolution to increase Beth DeMoss from part time to full time custodial hours as presented.
