With eight straight wins, an 8-1 record, a ranking as high as fourth, and another home football playoff game in their pocket for a second round game this Friday, Oct. 29 at Linduska Field in Jefferson, the Greene County High School football team will host OABCIG (Ida Grove) in the upcoming Round of 16 contest. The Falcons are also 8-1, ranked fifth, and winners of 33 of its last 34 games dating back to the 2019 season. Previously number one ranked Southeast Valley (Gowrie) (8-1) and Iowa Falls-Alden (6-3) are the other teams in Pod #2, meaning the two Oct. 29 winners will meet on Nov. 15 in a quarterfinal round contest. None of the other three Class 2A pods have three 8-1 teams and none have three teams ranked as high as this one.

The head coach of the Rams is Caden Duncan. He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the pairing. “It’s pretty cool to be in the only pod that has three teams with 8-1 records and three teams most consider in the top five. We know we have a big challenge ahead of us in OABCIG, but if we take care of business, we would get to play at home again in front of our fans and we hope it is a Linduska Field packed with Ram fans.”

Greene County has played just two teams with winning records and the Rams’ opponents have combined for 31 wins and 50 losses, but the schedule got much tougher with the OABCIG pairing. The Falcons won the 2A State title in 2019 and added the 1A crown in 2020. A 44-22 loss vs. Southeast Valley in week four this season is their only loss in the last three campaigns.

OABCIG and Greene County can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.oom Friday with coverage at 6:15 p.m. and coverage at 7 p.m.
