Prior to the Iowa High School Athletic Association releasing Class 2A football pairings for the second round, speculation was Greene County would be placed in the most difficult of the four “pods” based on the records and rankings of the remaining teams. The speculation was right. The Rams are in Pod #2 and will host OABCIG (Ida Grove) on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in Jefferson at Linduska Field. The winner will meet either Southeast Valley (Gowrie) or Iowa Falls-Alden in a Nov. 5 quarterfinal at a site to be determined.

Greene County and OABCIG are both 8-1 on the season and both are ranked fifth or higher depending on the poll. SEV is also 8-1, and ranked fourth, while IF-A is 6-3 and unranked. The combined win/loss record of those four teams is 30-6, and none of the other pods has a combined record as good as Pod #2.

The contest between the Rams and Falcons is the only 2A Round of 16 game featuring teams that are 8-1. There are no undefeated teams in 2A and only six squads have just one loss. Friday’s game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
