Dallas Center – Grimes volleyball had class 4A district 2 semifinal competition against the North Polk Comets, with the Comets pulling out the victory to move to the championship game winning by the score of 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, and 25-21. DCG ends their season at 16-22 as they fail to grab a winning record for the first time since 2013.
The back and forth battle was entertaining on Thursday night, as DCG put together one of their best and most spirited efforts of the season. DCG was able to rally after the first set as they got a terrific performance from their key seniors and up and coming youth to even out the game. After North Polk barely took the third set, a wild forth set went down as DCG tried to extend this game to a deciding fifth set. The Comets were able to make enough plays down the stretch but DCG fought hard, in a terrific match.
The Mustangs will be returning a healthy amount of talent next year but will be saying goodbye to four seniors in Kenna Jackson, Katie Christensen, Audrey Anderson, and Ella Lampe. Mustang volleyball falls short in postseason play on Thursday night.
