Several community events have gone back to more normalcy following the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, and for one fundraising event in Perry, they are doing just that.

The St. Patrick’s Catholic School Light up the Knight fundraiser, which will take place this weekend, was held in a different manner last year due to the pandemic. Organizer Jody Lutterman explains how the event was different last year.

“We did do a mini event at the end of school, so it was almost the last day of school last year, where we kind of made it just a very small event during the school day and we changed it from Light up the Knight because you can’t really glow in the middle of the day so we did Color the Knights.”

Lutterman tells Raccoon Valley Radio while the event was still held in some capacity last year those who participated were asking whether or not the normal event was still going to take place.

“I did have a lot of kids ask, “Well are we still going to do Light up the Knight?’ So, I think it’s just a fun thing they look forward to.”

The Light Up the Knight 5K fundraiser event will take place this Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at Wiese Park. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be at the event providing music. The free event will feature a 5K glow walk/run in which the community can participate in as well as other activities including inflatables, a dunk tank and glow items and food available for purchase.
