As harvest season continues more large farm equipment will be out on the road which means drivers need to be more careful.
Dallas County Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Meaghan Anderson reminds motorists that farm equipment doesn’t move quickly on the road.
“The most important thing to remember is that if they see one of these large implements or they see something turning out on the road or a long line of vehicles to remember that they are very slow moving. Most of them aren’t going to go any faster than maybe 20 or 25 miles an hour.”
Anderson tells Raccoon Valley Radio it’s also important to remember that when farm implements are pulling out onto the road it takes them a while to get up to speed. Anderson explains another important thing to remember is keeping your distance.
“They are so large those mirrors can only see so far back so if you are right behind the vehicle it’s going to make it harder for you to stop if they make a sudden change as well as it’s going to make it harder for anybody to see you out on the road.”
Anderson says sometimes it can be difficult to tell what a farm implement is doing so it’s important to pay extra attention.
