The Guthrie Center City Council is weighing options to provide funding for Mitchell Park for worn out playground equipment.
Guthrie Center Mayor Mike Herbert explains the issues going on with the equipment.
“It’s fairly old and some of the main decking on it we feel may be a little unsafe for kids. It is not too bad right now but I don’t know how long it is going to last, it may not last another year.”
According to the city, the cost to fix the playground equipment is around $12,900. Herbert says there are options to find funding.
“There are numerous grants out there especially for parks and playground equipment for kids and that kind of thing, we will try to help offset the cost for the taxpayers.”
Herbert also mentions that another decision the Council is considering is moving the playground equipment in a different part of the park. He says they want the project done by next summer. The Council will consider the project at their next meeting on October 11th.
