With the fall season causing more yard waste to be present, the fall open burning season will soon open for Perry residents.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says the open burning dates for yard waste will be from October 31st through November 21st and run from 10 a.m. until sundown. Peterson says while it’s an option they encourage people to find alternative methods.
“Mostly it’s just kind of similar to the ongoing conversation about fireworks. Just respect for your neighbors and the neighborhood and really the community as a whole. When people are burning dry sticks or really dry leaves, well there’s really not much smoke but it’s when people are trying to burn wet or damp leaves that it can completely smoke out an entire section of the community.”
Peterson reminds residents that the curbside pickup for yard waste will still be offered until December 8th as another alternative way to get rid of yard waste.
