harvest-season-2

With harvest season continuing along in Iowa, the speed at which harvest is occurring is ahead of what would be considered normal.

According to the latest Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report, 40-percent of soybeans have been harvested and 19-percent of corn has been harvested. Dallas County Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Meaghan Anderson says harvest is moving along quickly.

“Harvest is moving along really quickly and yields for the most part are really good especially when we consider how little rainfall that we got this growing season so it’s really remarkable and I think a really good testament to the farmers that are out there and the genetics that we work with in our crops and our ability to grow crops on limited resources.”

Anderson tells Raccoon Valley Radio that in terms of where harvest is so far this season it is right on pace with where farmers were last year but also ahead of what they would call normal.

“We are far ahead of our five year average for harvest so things are moving along really quickly compared to what we would consider normal.”

Anderson says being ahead of the five year normal is likely due to how dry things have been this season.
