A Council Bluffs man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a traffic fatality from earlier this year that happened in Dallas County.
According to court documents, 53-year-old Stephen Joseph Wink pled guilty to a Class B Felony for homicide by vehicle and was sentenced to a term not to exceed 25 years and a Class D Felony for serious injury by vehicle and sentenced to a term not to exceed five years. Both sentences are to run consecutively. The third charge, an aggravated misdemeanor for operating while under the influence was dismissed. Also, Wink was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $150,000 to the victims’ heirs.
The charges stem from an incident in February of this year when Wink crossed the centerline while traveling south on County Road P-58 in Dallas County and his vehicle hit head-on with a northbound vehicle driven by 40-year-old Danyel Denise Hardisty of Minburn and Hardisty was pronounced dead at the scene.
