Applications for young adults wanting to attend a military academy, a deadline to receive a congressional nomination is fast approaching.
Iowans who are at least 17 years-old and not yet 23 by July 1st are encouraged to apply for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Representative Randy Feenstra’s Military Academy Nomination. Other criteria for applicants to be aware of include being a U.S. citizen and a legal resident of Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District, not married with no dependents and graduates of service academies are appointed to active duty as commissioned officers to serve a minimum of five years.
Congressman Feenstra encourages those who qualify to apply.
“So we have the opportunity to nominate people to service academies and what that is, is service academies at West Point, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, U.S. Merchant Marines Academy. We just want some great Iowans. We get to pick and get some great Iowans from the Fourth District in these academies.”
Additionally, State Representative Phil Thompson has been chosen as one of eight members to serve on the selection committee for the academy nominations.
