A program designed to help those providing care for others to manage their stress will soon begin with Dallas County Extension.

The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program consists of six 90-minute classes. Extension Educator Maddie Mardesen says the in-person class is a good way for those caregivers to get tips on how to deal with stress.

“It’s a good way for them really to learn self care tips, to really destress, and take care of themselves.”

Mardesen tells Raccoon Valley Radio the cost of the program is $15 and will take place at the Extension office in Adel. Mardesen says when you look at Dallas County there are plenty of people potentially taking care of others.

“If you look at the county, about 12-percent of Dallas County residents are over the age of 65. If you think about that, there is lots of family members out there that are really taking care of family members and they really don’t get time to actually think about how they can reduce stress, or improve their confidence, or balance their life, or have those difficult conversations.”

The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will begin on October 12th and run each Tuesday from 1-2:30 p.m. For more information and to register you can go here.
