The seasons are beginning to change and as the coronavirus pandemic continues on, the winter season will likely continue with COVID-19 cases.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says from what she is hearing COVID-19 cases will likely continue in some form or fashion throughout the winter months but there are precautions that can make it less severe.

“The more quickly and more thoroughly we can get our entire population to be vaccinated the less severe that will look among the population and there will be COVID present but if most of the people are vaccinated it won’t continue so widespread.”

Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio one reason for the potential spike in COVID-19 cases as the weather turns colder is because people will be engaging in more activities indoors such as basketball or simply being inside more due to harsh weather conditions.

“It’ll be more important this winter for people to get the flu vaccination for the season. Someone who is unvaccinated against both the seasonal flu and COVID would have a very high chance of getting sick this winter.”
