Thursday was the deadline for nominations for the upcoming city and school board elections in November, and there are several contested races in Greene County.
According to the Greene County Auditor’s Office, one contested race will be for the three available seats on the Jefferson City Council. All three incumbents are running for re-election, including Harry Ahrenholtz, Pat Zmolek and Darren Jackson. The other two candidates are Mark Wright and Heath Enns.
There are also two contested mayoral races for Grand Junction and Scranton. The Grand Junction mayor candidates include incumbent Gerold Herrick and challenger Jason McDowell. The Scranton mayor candidates include David Dideriksen, Jerry Erwin and Jerold Boyd. Cole Gusthoff resigned as mayor last week due to personal reasons and will not seek another bid as mayor. Additionally, there are seven people running for three seats on the Grand Junction City Council.
As for school board elections, there is a contested race for the three available seats with the Greene County School Board. Only one incumbent is seeking re-election with Catherine Wilson and there are four newcomers, including Bonnie Silbaugh, Sean Sebourn, Cindi Daubendiek, Michelle Fields and Nicholas Lehman.
