With Fire Prevention Week coming up in the first week of October, the Stuart Fire Department is encouraging people to check their smoke detectors now.
Assistant Fire Department Chief Steve Martinson says people should check their smoke detectors at a minimum on a monthly basis and there needs to be more than one in a house.
“One in the kitchen, one in the dining room, one in the living room, hallways, bedrooms anywhere where you can put one I usually have one so.”
Martinson states just about any store should carry smoke detectors like True Value, grocery stores, Walmart or Dollar General.
