The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, there was a discussion about a carbon dioxide pipeline project that involves 30 Iowa counties, including Greene County. The pipeline would transport carbon dioxide emissions from ethanol plants to North Dakota where it would be stored underground. County Engineer Wade Weiss mentioned a conversation with a representative with ISG about the inspection process and how the cost to do that would be reimbursed.
Conservation Director Tanner Scheuerman gave an update. He said a conservation board member, Mark Kinnen, is going to resign at the end of September. The application process was underway to recommend a new appointee.
Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer then gave an update. He said city staff are working with engineering firm Bolton and Menk on cost estimates for the road renovations to West Lincoln Way from Highway 4 to Grimmell Road. He said bids were received for the new animal shelter and the range was between $890,000 to $990,000. There is a 60 day window whether or not to move forward with the existing bids.
The Board then approved the first of two options for renovations to the magistrate courtroom. The first option will cost $26,231 from the county’s general fund. The improvements will make the area similar to the main courtroom in the courthouse. Next, the Board approved a contract with SCI Communications for election equipment security for $8,153, which is anticipated to be reimbursed through a $10,000 grant from the Secretary of State’s office.
Finally, the Board approved a new 28E agreement with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for private well permitting. The one noted change was a process for wells to be constructed or renovated near a contaminated site.
