As the City of Perry continues improvements a recent project to repair roads is officially completed.

At the most recent Perry City Council meeting on September 7th the Council approved the statement of completion for the 2021 crack sealing project. City Administrator Sven Peterson explains what the project accomplished.

“A couple years after we do an overlay project we go back and seal up the cracks that have come up through that asphalt. Like concrete, asphalt is guaranteed to crack so it’s really important to extend the life of that asphalt overlay to go back through and seal all those cracks.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the City completed the crack sealing project on recent overlays that were completed in 2016 as well as some other streets. Peterson says the sealing protects the roads from getting moisture inside them.

“We are not going to get rain in there or especially in the winter months when we have that freeze-thaw, that’s when some moisture will get in that crack, freeze, and then that’s what breaks up and causes potholes.”

At the Council meeting on September 7th the Council approved a change order, pay application and statement of completion and final acceptance for the project.
