Motorcyclists face dangers on the road that deal with other motorists, but sometimes there are situations that are not vehicle-related.

Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio he’s had complaints about grass clippings on the roadway as motorcyclists are entering and exiting town. He says these issues are occurring outside of city limits, which means property owners are not subject to the city’s ordinance that prohibits grass clippings on the roadway. However, Clouse explains how dangerous the clippings are for motorcycles.

“That grass is basically ice to a motorcycle. They’re not able to brake, they’re not able to turn the motorcycle, to steer through that stuff. It’s basically like ice and can be a very, very hazardous situation for the motorcycle rider.”

Clouse asks for property owners right outside city limits to be courteous and remove blown grass clippings off the roadway to ensure better safety for motorcyclists.
