As the City of Perry continues discussions on what to do about fireworks, they are drawing closer to a conclusion.

Perry city officials recently held a workshop on August 27th to discuss the issues with fireworks use in Perry after receiving numerous complaints and opinions after the recent Fourth of July holiday. City Administrator Sven Peterson says the Council is moving closer to a decision.

“The direction that came out of that meeting was, after going through we did an exercise where we listed out all of the issues that came up with fireworks and kept track of all of those issues and discussed a few of them. Really where we came out was a need to look at an ordinance that does not allow the discharge of fireworks in town and that maybe restricts where fireworks can be sold.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio that while the Council may be moving forward with a decision that could potentially ban fireworks use in Perry, concerned citizens still have time to voice their opinions or concerns.

“I’ll also say all of city council’s contact information is on our website with their phone numbers and email. You can also call City Hall and provide input there and we will relay that to city council as well. Definitely still time to either voice your support for or against fireworks.

Peterson says the plans are to potentially have a first reading of an updated ordinance at the September 20th Council meeting.
