September is National Preparedness Month which raises awareness for being ready to react in the case of a disaster or emergency that could happen at any time.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf describes the main points of National Preparedness Month.

“To help make awareness that  make a plan for at home, to make a kit to have, you know, in case of a disaster, and also just to bring up the hazards that you should be aware of on a normal basis.”

Kempf says a family should sit down at least once to make a plan on where to meet in case of a disaster. He stresses the importance of  communication in a disaster should be through text messages and some good items for a disaster  kit include blankets, non-perishable foods and a copy of your insurance papers.
