Dallas Center – Grimes football was looking to pull off the upset against Johnston on Friday night in Grimes, and was almost able to pull off the upset in their strongest performance of the season, falling 17-16 in a tight contest. DCG stays winless at 0-3 while Johnston improves to 2-1 on the year.

The Mustangs trailed 10-7 at halftime and 17-7 after 3 quarters of play, but the Mustangs came back first with a field goal to make it 17-10 early in the fourth. With 2:58 left, DCG was able to get a passing touchdown from quarterback from Huston Halverson to Keaton Jackson, but the PAT was no good after as DCGs comeback fell just short.

DCG was able to slow down the Johnston offense throughout the evening as the Dragons as a team were able to put up just 40 yards on 27 carries, and the Mustangs were able to tally five tackles for loss as a team as well.

The big key might have been in the turnover department, where Johnston was able to have two fumble recoveries on the night to none for DCG.

DCG returns to the road to finish out non-district play for week 4, as their road will stay difficult when they travel to Norwalk to take on the Warriors.
