A Scranton-based business is celebrating its first year anniversary under new ownership.

Co-Owner Nicole Freiss-Schilling took over the former John’s 15 Vineyard from Dean and Nancy Rogers in July of 2020. She says the business, now known as J.V. Vineyard and Retreat, was named after her grandfather James Verle Bennett, who passed away in 2015. Freiss-Schilling points out several new additions to the property, including floating docks on the pond, U-pick strawberries, a nine hole disc golf course, farm animals, a reception hall, renovated guest rooms, more campsites and a dedicated hiking trail and a larger commercial kitchen.

The open house is from 10am-5pm Saturday and 1-5pm Sunday. Freiss-Schilling says on Saturday there will be free tractor-pulled rides to tour the vineyards and tree house campsite. Additionally, a free outdoor concert with “The High Crest” will be on Saturday at 5pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own equipment and use the disc golf course, as well as their fishing poles and bait to use at the pond during both days of the open house.

Free refreshments will be served and attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch. No pre-registration is necessary. Freiss-Schilling adds her ultimate goal is to be more than a conference center, but a retreat for families, individuals and couples who need a break.
