Stuart Library is urging residents to check drawers, backpacks and desks to round up used crayons for the Crayon Initiative.

Assistant Library Director Katie Reynolds tells Raccoon Valley Radio the initiative first began with Bryan Ware, and she explains why Ware started the Crayon Initiative.

“(He) wanted to know what happened to all the broken down crayons at restaurants and he did not want them to go to waste so he created a charity that collects the crayons, melts them down and creates three sets of crayons. And with the three sets of crayons they package them up and ship them to all the different children’s hospitals all over the country.”

For those who have broken down crayons take them to Stuart Library before October.
