Dallas Center – Grimes boys and girls cross country ran in their first meet of the season on Tuesday in Grimes, and both teams were able to get some great results, both finishing in first place.
On the boys side, they started their title defense in style grabbing an excellent team score of 30, with all of the runners scoring being in the top 10. Aiden Ramsey grabbed a first place performance with a time of 15 minutes and 46 seconds, winning by 19 seconds. Sophomore Tate McDermott was able to get a 5th place performance with a time of 17 minutes, senior Jacob Ewers finished 7th with a race time of 17 minutes 26 seconds, AJ Angus finished 8th with a time of 17 minutes 28 seconds, and Jack Every was able to get a time of 17 minutes 31 seconds.
The girls were able to grab a team mark of 46 points, just beating out 2nd place Indianola. DCG was able to get a great varsity debut from freshmen Maddie Schmitz, grabbing 3rd with a time of 20 minutes 10 seconds. Senior Hannah Little was able to get 7th with a time of 21 minutes 13 seconds, and senior Skyler Blessmen getting 9th with 21 minutes 23 seconds. Meredith McDermott and Vanessa Bickford were able to round out the scoring for the Mustangs, as they were sharp all day long in decent conditions.
DCG will now wait to race until next Tuesday with a big race at Lakeview Country Club in Winterset.
