The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, County Attorney Thomas Laehn presented two designs for improvements to magistrate court. The first design is similar to the main courtroom in the Greene County Courthouse and was estimated to cost $27,000. The second design would be cheaper and would provide floor space if a jury trial was needed. The judges and court reporters were in favor of the second design and the Board agreed. Laehn will present a cost estimate for the second design at a future meeting.
The Board then approved a tax abatement of $6 for an exempt property that the Iowa Department of Transportation owns in Paton Township. Next, the Board approved the retirement resolution for Conservation Director Dan Towers for his 37 years of service. Towers thanked the Supervisors, Secondary Roads Department for their help, as well as other departments when needed.
The Board also approved the annual review of the updates to the County’s Comprehensive Emergency Plan, as well as four required Emergency Support Functions as presented.
Finally, Sheriff Jack Williams brought up Greene County joining other Iowa counties that have declared themselves “Second Amendment sanctuaries” as a supportive measure for the right to keep and bear arms. The Board decided to discuss the topic with Laehn at a future meeting.
