novel-coronavirus

For those who have antibodies against COVID-19, it might protect you against most variants.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention antibodies can protect an individual from COVID-19 for some period of time after the infection. Guthrie County Health Services Director Jotham Arber tells Raccoon Valley Radio that having antibodies does provide some protection.

“If they encounter the Alpha variant of the virus, they have strong protection against that variant and they probably have some protection against other variants as well. The body is very good at using antibodies.”

Arber explains that having natural immunity and the vaccine it tends to provide an even higher level of immunity against COVID-19 and other variants. Arber explains the percentage of protection an individual would have with natural immunity and the vaccine.

“By natural immunity you’re probably at 80 percent (immunity) and then you get that vaccine and it’s going to bump that up.”

Arber points out the vaccine gives the body the mechanism to create antibodies to keep the body safe and provides the longest amount of protection. Guthrie County Hospitals offers Coronavirus antibodies tests and it costs $30 per test. For more information on how to get that test click the link below.
