A Greene County organization recently donated funds to the food pantry in Jefferson.

The Greene County Cattlemen’s Association held a free-will donation dinner at last Tuesday’s Greene County Farmers Market in support of the Greene County Action Resource Center (ARC). Cattlemen member Mike Holden tells Raccoon Valley Radio they raised $489 by selling 75 burgers, chips and bottled water. He points out Jefferson Hy-Vee donated all of the food items.

Holden notes that this was one small way the Cattlemen have helped to give back to different organizations.

“We’re a big contributor to the (Greene County) Fair Board and supporting the (county) fair, we also have given cash donations to the ARC, yearly; we give out scholarships to the (graduating high school) seniors every year. I believe the last three or four years, we were averaging between $8,000 and $10,000 a year to local seniors here. We’re constantly looking for ways to where we can be a better member of our community here and help serve people in other ways, other than just be beef producers.”

Holden says the ARC were thrilled with the donation and will be able to use the single serve items that were also donated as well.
