Several Greene County residents were recently honored at a statewide conference. 

The 5th Annual Iowa Rural Summit took place earlier this month at Kirkwood Community College, where 250 people attended. This event allows people from across the state to share their innovation and vision of their small communities. 

New to the summit was recognition of the first-ever class of Iowa Rural Heroes. These were individuals that were honored for their leadership, innovation and accomplishments that have made a difference in their communities or regions. Among the 14 individuals that were recognized included Peg Raney of Jefferson and Chuck and Carla Offenburger of Cooper. 

The Rural Iowa Heroes were sponsored by Iowa Farm Bureau/Renew Rural Iowa, and Iowa Area Development Group.
