The Adair County Health System will now provide a third booster COVID-19 vaccine for individuals that have a compromised immune system due to a medical condition or medication.

The nationwide booster initiative is focusing on those who got the vaccine in the initial roll out phase eight months ago. According to the hospital, this focus group would include health care providers, nursing home residents and adults 65 and over. Boosters will be available for everyone beginning on September 21st pending approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration.

According to Adair County Public Health they are seeing a decrease in severe outcomes but an increase in spread and that is why the recommendations are changing. They also say the vaccine is the best defense against COVID-19 and the booster shot would prolong the lifespan of the effectiveness of the vaccine.
