As students have headed back to school in Guthrie County, there are some important reminders to keep everyone safe while on the road.
Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright says that there will be a lot of youth getting on and off school buses and so he advises to take extra precautions when you see a school bus.
“So when you approach a bus or get behind a bus and the yellow light comes on, that does not mean to hurry and go around the bus because the red lights will be on soon and the stop arm will come out.”
Arganbright says that the school buses have cameras and can record any violator’s license plate. Iowa passed in 2012 Kaydens Law which allows law enforcement to fine people who violate the school buses stop arm up to $250 and possible jail time.
Another safety reminder Arganbright adds is that when youth are walking home from school, they should ignore strangers and try to walk in a group.
