While the coronavirus pandemic continues to alter regular services, the Adel Public Library had a good turnout for its summer reading program.

The Reading Colors Your World Summer Reading Program saw 365 people participate throughout the summer ranging from babies to adults, who read a total of 131,527 minutes combined. Library Director Trever Jayne says they are happy with the turnout.

“Considering the way things are with the pandemic we’re thrilled with the numbers that we had and the number of people that participated this summer.”

Jayne tells Raccoon Valley Radio while attendance was down from where it usually is for summer activities people were still coming to programming, including things that were new this year.

“We saw less people coming into the library but they were using more services so checking out more items (and) using more online items. Program attendance for outside programming, which was new this summer, was phenomenal.”

With the conclusion of the summer reading program the library is preparing for its fall programming.
