Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Representative made his second stop of the year in Greene County Tuesday evening.

Congressman Randy Feenstra was at the Greene County Farmers Market in Jefferson. Market Co-Manager Chris Henning led Feenstra to all of the vendors as well as discussed other county projects and manufacturers in the county, along with Greene County Supervisor Pete Bardole. Feenstra believes farmers markets are one of the best ways that people can get locally grown produce.

“It’s from the garden direct to retail and to somebody’s plate. It’s just fun to see what’s happening, especially in an agriculture community. Then you go to a farmers market and people are saying, ‘Hey I want to make a few bucks and I want to sell my goods.’ So this is, to me, how agriculture truly makes a difference.”

Feenstra visited Greene County earlier this year with a tour of Bauer Built Manufacturing in Paton. Both trips to the county were part of Feenstra’s 39-county tour twice per year. He told Raccoon Valley Radio why some of his county visits are public town halls or at public venues, while others are tours of businesses.

“To me I just want to meet people and see how we can help, we’re all in government together. When you go to a farmers market or sometimes we have to go to a business to understand what’s happening and the different facets that an effective business might be different than somebody that’s growing some crop for farmers market and things like that. So to me it’s all about meeting the people where they are at, helping all of us together as consumers of government, because we are government together to make a difference.”

Feenstra is serving in his first term in Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District.
