As the Iowa State Fair continues in Des Moines, Dallas County area youth are making their way to the fairgrounds to compete.
Dallas County Extension Regional Director Ann Torbert says exhibitors from Dallas County include livestock as well as static exhibits that were selected from the county fair to go on to the state fair. Torbert says the Dallas County Fair was a good way to get them prepared.
“Many times our judges that we have here for Dallas County sometimes you actually see them again reevaluating at State Fair. So, it’s important to make sure that if the judge gives a suggestion that you do it.”
Torbert tells Raccoon Valley Radio as Dallas County 4-H’ers make their way to the fairgrounds for the next level of competition it’s important to remember to support them in their endeavors, especially as the fair experience is more normal this year.
“Visit some of those shows. Our kids need people to be the folks who cheer them on as they are leading that steer in the ring or showing their rabbit. All of that is important. Our kids do really well when they have supportive adults around them.”
The Iowa State Fair is from August 12th-22nd.
