While the coronavirus pandemic prevented a local festival in Adel from taking place last year, the event made a more normal return this year.

The 42nd Annual Adel Sweet Corn Festival saw people flooding into the town to enjoy the many activities to take part in this past Friday and Saturday including a car show, kids games and of course free sweet corn. Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce Director Deb Bengtson says it was good to have the event again.

“It’s been great. It’s always a great festival, it’s good to have it back this year.”

Bengtson tells Raccoon Valley Radio while there was a little more return to normalcy there were some changes made to the event including how people were eating as well as the parade route. Bengtson says the event took a little more planning than normal, but they were good changes.

“The things that we changed have been great. Lengthening the parade route was really great. Eating on Prairie Street and spreading people out for that was fantastic. I think it made us stop and think through some things and probably makes it even a better festival.”

While there were changes made to the event Bengtson says it was a good day including for the vendors that lined Adel throughout the festival.
