Greene County sophomore Nathan Behne is already an accomplished kicker. As a freshman in 2020 he went 29 of 31 on extra points in football, earning All-District honors. On the soccer field in 2021, he was a starter on the Greene County team that played in the Class 1A State Tournament.
Although skilled at both, Behne says there are definite differences in how to successfully kick the soccer ball and the football. “You have to change some things. In kicking a soccer ball, you really have to keep you chest down to keep it low, but football is the exact opposite because you want to get it in the air. So, that’s a big key part. And the way to angle your foot to hit the football is also different.”
Behne hopes to be busy again this fall as the Rams return a number of weapons on offense from the 7-3 team of a season ago. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams have a practice scrimmage in Jefferson on Aug. 20 vs. Nevada, then open the regular season on Aug. 27 in Guthrie Center vs. ACGC. All Ram football games will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
