Today marks the first official day of Iowa high school practice for all Fall sports. Jeff Lamoureux is the girls and boys cross-country coach at Greene County High, and he told Raccoon Valley Radio getting miles in during the Summer months are key to a successful season. “If you think you’re going to show up and be ready on the first day of official practice, you probably won’t be ready. You need to put the miles in, and successful teams do that in the Summer.”
The coach said some of the Rams ran during the offseason. “We were pretty successful, but not as many kids as a coach would always like out there in the Summer. We had a corps of runners that put in a lot of miles from a Summer training plan and were really getting after it. We held our Summer practices three days a week, but several of the runners were running in between those days to get some miles in.”
Lamoureux said he’d like to have more girls and more out for the sport and he welcomes any middle school and high school age students to give it a try.
