While vaccinations are providing protection for people against COVID-19, there is still the potential to spread the disease.
Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says there is a lot of concern about the Delta variant as it produces more of the virus for a person to spread it. Cochran says it is possible to become infected even when you’re vaccinated.
“While it’s uncommon, it is possible for a fully vaccinated person to become infected with the COVID virus, especially one of the variants, and this vaccinated but infected person would test positive but would have much more mild symptoms, not bad enough for hospitalization.”
Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio the good news is this leads to positive cases but less people winding up in the hospital. Cochran says there are things to do to mitigate the spread.
“There is a lot of infection out there, a lot of spread and in order for us to tamp that down we need to continue to wear masks if we are in crowded situations.”
For all those who are age 12 and over, there are vaccinations available. For a full list of where you can be vaccinated in Dallas County you can go here.
