A reminder that today is a musical concert hosted by the Thomas Jefferson Gardens.
The “Slides and Strings” concert will feature Jefferson native Dr. Ryan Van Gilder on trombone and professional violist Brightin Rose Schlumpf. Van Gilder and Schlumpf will each play classical music and Van Gilder will additionally play jazz music. The two musicians are related to Thomas Jefferson Gardens Board member Jean Van Gilder. She says tonight’s concert will be an extra special treat.
“So there’s a viola/cello duet that Ryan will play the cello part on trombone because it’s written how he can play. So a new experience, something people probably haven’t heard.”
The event will be held at the Gardens Pavilion at 5pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and can sit on Chestnut Street, as a portion of that road will be closed for the free concert.
