Monday marks the first official day of practice for high school Fall sports teams throughout the state. For Greene County girls and boys cross-country coach Jeff Lamoureux, he’s looking forward to the upcoming campaign. Lamoureux is not a teacher and his children are college age or older, so coaching gives him a chance to stay in touch with high school age students, plus he’s a distance runner himself.

“Cross-country isn’t the easiest sport and it’s not for everybody, but there’s a lot of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes with running five kilometers (3.1 miles), like our high school girls and boys run.” The coach said the boys were second in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet in 2020 and all but one runner from that team returns. He’s still looking for girls and boys to join the team, which those interested can do by calling Greene County High School and asking for the Activities Department.
