With the heat affecting the Raccoon Valley Radio tower project, work will resume soon.
General Manager John McGee says the project is currently, approximately halfway done and crews are in Arkansas fabricating the jack needed to lift the center tower to replace the insulator. The hopes are for work to begin again next week.
“They are down at their shop down in Arkansas right now building the jigs, building the equipment to do this project and right now the goal is to be back up here working on the project with that newly constructed, customized equipment to do the job the week of August 9th. So, about a week out.”
McGee says when the crews return to Perry the work will consist of the crews lifting the center tower to replace the insulator along with replacing the antennas and transmission line on the center tower, which will lead to downtime for 99.7FM KDLS.
“It could be a six to eight hour day of a project for that just because of we are off the air from the time they want to start lowering the antennas to the time they have got it fully installed on the tower. Once that’s done then we are back to normal on the 99.7(FM).”
As a reminder if there are on-air interruptions on 99.7FM KDLS, you can always listen either on 1310AM KDLS, the KDLS app on your electronic device or streaming online at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
