The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.
The Board held a public hearing about its expenditure list to use federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds. No public comments were made and the Board wasn’t required to take any action.
The Board then held another public hearing to sell property to the Greene County Early Learning Center. The Early Learning Center needs to take ownership of the property adjacent to the current facility before possible construction of their $2.1 million new facility can begin. The Board then approved selling the property for $1 following the hearing.
The Board then approved Anderson Erickson and Pan O Gold for milk and bread services, as well as reappointing Mumma/Pedersen Law Firm as legal counsel, Sid Jones as treasurer and Brenda Muir as secretary, and several handbooks, including student and parent, coach and director, employee and bus driver handbooks all for the upcoming 2021-22 school year as presented.
Next, the Board approved two change orders for the middle school renovation project for upgrades to a system for the office, auditorium and locker room area, as well as additional work on the HVAC systems as presented. They also approved the 28E agreement with New Opportunities for the Head Start program, 21st Century Rehabilitation for sports medicine coverage for $8,500 and a fundraiser request for a golf tournament for the high school football team. Finally, the Board approved its legislative priorities with the Iowa Association of School Boards to include mental health, preschool, teacher recruitment and licensure, and school funding policy for the 2022 legislative session.
Superintendent Tim Christensen announced an open house for the middle and high schools that will be on August 22nd, along with a short program.
