The Stuart City Council met Tuesday night. 

The meeting started by approving Kristy Lonsdale’s sign that addresses the rocks in the front of the library. The Council also approved the comprehensive plan, granting MidAmerica Energy access to operate and extend into Stuart, as well as the southside of the interstate, and approved using five-percent from the hotel/motel tax.  

They approved the employee compensation proposal and a committee performance review that goes with it.  The Council then approved the zoning code regarding storage containers, economic developments, sanitary sewer system improvements to the lining on the northside of the City. 

The Council also approved the contract to buy a new ambulance for $160,000 and also to restart the K9 unit for the Stuart Police Department. The K9 unit will be funded by donations and be used for search warrants, traffic stops and school searches. 

Finally, the Council heard from City Engineer Forrest Aldrich about the all saints sidewalk and the decision was tabled due to more specifics needed in the  design and the Council took no action on the easement located at 1404 NE 2nd Street. 

During public forum, the Council briefly discussed funding  a radar speed limit sign that could be used all around the city. A special meeting will be held at 6 pm on July 26th.
