The summer months are a perfect time to get outside and cook, though it’s also a time to review some safety tips to keep everyone safe around grills.

Stuart Fire Chief Josh Renslow reminds gas grill users to make sure the grill is away from any structures or anything flammable.

“That radiant heat can cause a fire, I’ve seen numerous times where it melted the siding of a house.”.

Renslow points out another step before operating gas grills is to make sure that the grill is clean, to avoid any grease fires. He says in an emergency situation where a grease fire does start, shut the lid to the grill.

“You take the air away from a fire it won’t burn anymore.”

Finally, gas grill users are advised to follow all directions that are provided with the grill.
