Greene County is back under a burn ban at this time.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio he lifted the burn ban for a week during the 4th of July holiday, but says the county is now back under the ban. As a reminder a burn ban means no opening burning is allowed and the only exceptions are burning in a metal fire container or a burn barrel.

According to the National Weather Service, the last time Jefferson saw over 0.5 inches of rainfall was on June 24th with 0.58 inches. Jefferson has had seven consecutive days of no measurable rainfall. According the current U.S. Drought Monitor, Greene County continues to be under a severe drought. Greene County was first under a burn ban on June 17th, before the one week suspension.
