While the coronavirus pandemic altered the Fourth of July celebration in Perry last year, fan favorite activities made their way back into the community this year.

There were people lined up and down Willis Avenue Sunday morning awaiting the return of the Fourth of July parade this year which didn’t take place last year due to the pandemic along with vendors in Pattee Park. Perry Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says it was nice to see a good turnout this year.

“It’s really great to see a good turnout from everyone. It’s really nice to see everyone getting back into this celebration and seeing the community come together. Lots and lots of parade floats more than normal I think, lots of people watching them. Lines upon lines at the park for lunch. So, just really great to see so many people coming out, celebrating the Fourth of July, celebrating community, we have this wonderful community here in Perry.”

Pasutti tells Raccoon Valley Radio the celebration this year was a culmination of the community coming together and supporting different causes from last year’s fundraising as well as efforts this year.

“With all of the donations from last year’s fireworks, this year’s fireworks, the bandshell sponsors every little bit even just getting a parade float together and think about all of the water that was purchased and the candy and everything all of that goes to show the great support that we have here in our community.”

The Fourth of July celebration in Perry ended with fireworks beginning at dusk.
