Emergency and first responders handled two separate traffic-related crashes Wednesday near Stuart.

The first incident happened at 7:35am on Interstate-80 near mile marker 91. Iowa State Patrol District 4 Resource Officer Shelby McCreedy said a semi-tractor trailer was heading east when the driver, 22-year-old Jeffery Kempf fell asleep and the vehicle slid onto its side, entered the median and continued to slide, causing damage to some guardrail posts and cables. McCreedy said Kempf had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Stuart Fire and Rescue and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted at the scene. 

The second incident happened at 12:19pm. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Tammy Brock, 57, of Cleveland, Tennessee was traveling eastbound on Interstate-80 near mile marker 89 in a 2018 Ford Transit Van and rear ended a 2011 Honda CRV that was being towed by  a 2004 Ford E-450 truck, which was driven by 57-year-old Lee McCleary of Vernon, Arizona.

Brock suffered minor injuries and was taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center by Stuart Rescue. The crash report noted Brock was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. 

Adair County Sheriff’s Office, the Stuart Fire Department, and Adair Rescue assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
