As the severe weather season continues, it’s important to know where you should go if it is necessary.
Dallas County Emergency Management Coordinator A.J. Seely says an important factor relating to emergency preparedness is knowing where someone may go in the event of severe weather. Seely explains where you could go, even if you don’t have a basement.
“For a typical home with a basement we always like to say head down to your basement in a sheltered place, away from windows. If you don’t have a basement though we would always encourage you to go (to) the furthest interior room of the house. So, the goal being you want to put as many walls between you and outside as possible.”
Seely tells Raccoon Valley Radio there is another consideration for those who may be living in a mobile home, such as leaving the home altogether and go to a dedicated shelter. He stresses the importance of planning.
“It’s always good to have that plan ahead of time so that during an event you’re not having to determine where are we doing to go how are we going to get there, that sort of thing.”
Seely says most mobile home parks will have a dedicated shelter for people to go to in the event of severe weather.
