The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is currently working on a project to support fallen law enforcement officers in Iowa.
Sheriff Chad Leonard says the new Dallas County jail facility sits on 40 acres of land and through the center of the property is the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Leonard says the hopes are to create a memorial on the trail.
“What we are proposing to do is we are going to pave that bike trail through the middle of the property with a blue glow stone. It’ll basically glow in the dark every night. It’s going to be called Ride the Thin Blue Line. It’s a memorial for all of Iowa’s fallen police officers and eventually we want it to be a memorial for all of Iowa’s fallen first responders.”
Leonard tells Raccoon Valley Radio there is a group of people made up of various public safety officials and civilians working together on the project. Leonard says for those who may be interested in the project they can reach out to him.
“They can reach out to me and I’ll put them in contact with the right people and we can kind of show them the artwork that is being presented now. We are currently looking for people to help design shirts, and memorabilia, and stuff like that to help promote the project.”
Leonard says in the near future they will be making a big push toward fundraising.
