As local area schools completed their school year in May, one Guthrie County school district’s staff and students pushed through the pandemic.

West Central Valley Co-Superintendent Rusty Shockley says there were plenty of challenges throughout the school year from deciding whether or not students should wear masks and incorporating virtual learning for students but those who were involved pushed through the changes.

“Our staff and students were awesome all year. They took everything in stride, on a day to day basis with things coming out of the state, protocols would change and every one of our students and staff took it right in stride and did a phenomenal job.”

Shockley tells Raccoon Valley Radio athletics were also slightly different than they had been in the past. Shockley says athletics had good performances even though athletic events did look different due to not being able to have everyone they wanted at the games.

“Kids are resilient as a whole so they kind of rolled with the punches and did what they needed to do and just kept right on moving forward.”

Shockley mentioned multiplied performances throughout the year including Grant Caltrider making it to State golf as well as the soccer team being a kick away from the State tournament.
